Fifty & Fabulous - Celebrating Chari & Andy
Some occasions in life deserve more than just a few hurried snapshots on a phone, and a fiftieth birthday is absolutely one of them. When Chari and Andy got in touch and asked me to capture their celebrations, I knew straight away it was going to be a special one.
The two of them had hired the most gorgeous Airbnb retreat at Willowgarth House near Northallerton, gathering their closest friends around them for a truly intimate celebration. And honestly? The whole event felt like a big, warm hug.
We kicked things off with some formal portraits, with everyone dressing up in elegant attire. Their birthdays timed well with falling over Spring as we had some beautiful daffodils to use as a backdrop.
Once the formal photos were done, the real party began. Everyone changed into something more comfortable and just lived the day — laughing with friends and being completely and utterly themselves. These are the candid moments I treasure most as a photographer. No posing or direction - just real, genuine joy captured as it happens.
And that's exactly why having a photographer at celebrations like this matters so much. We're all guilty of thinking we'll remember everything, but the truth is the little details fade faster than we expect - the way someone's face looked mid-laugh, the quiet moment two people shared across a room, the atmosphere of a day that felt so perfectly theirs.
